Company History
Associated Spec Consultants was formed in1992 as Focus Collaborative to prepare construction specifications for architects and engineers. Effective October 1, 2008, Focus Collaborative was dissolved to form two new companies, one of which is Associated Spec Consultants. Our goal at Associated Spec Consultants is to combine all our experiences to become our client’s primary technical resource for construction materials, methods, and applications.
The Principals of the firm are James Maxey and Todd Maxey. Jim is a Certified Construction Specifier (CCS) and Todd is a Construction Documents Technologist (CDT) and a LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP), with diverse backgrounds in construction, specs and building inspections. In addition to our principals, our staff includes full-time specifiers, part-time specifiers, and administrative personnel that allow us to meet the most demanding schedules. Our Spec Writers come with extensive experience in architecture, building renovations, ground up construction, building inspections, and years of specifications writing.

We will document technical, quality, and construction requirements at each project phase so the project team knows what the design includes. We provide candid opinions based on research and experience, advising the project architect on materials, applications, and available options.
